Naming a real automotive business
- Detailing and mobile services: the name is read from a van at a traffic light. Two short words maximum, and a phone-friendly spelling.
- Garages and workshops: trust beats cleverness. A surname, a street, or a plain descriptive name outperforms wordplay.
- Parts and accessories: buyers search by part, not brand, so the name should be distinctive enough to be remembered after a good purchase.
- Dealerships: check manufacturer naming rules before anything — franchise agreements restrict how a marque name may appear in yours.
Inventing a fictional marque
- Real marques cluster around surnames, animals, places and Latin roots — that is why invented names in those families feel plausible.
- Two or three syllables ending in a vowel sound automotive: Velora, Castia, Auron.
- Avoid names within one letter of a real manufacturer; in a commercial project that is a legal problem, not a homage.
Before using a name commercially
- Automotive trademarks are defended hard. Search class 12 (vehicles) and class 37 (repair and maintenance).
